Have you ever dreamt of sailing the world but don’t know where to start?
Let us introduce you to the world of Excess Catamarans & the World Cruising Club’s ARC Rally!
Since 1986 the World Cruising Club has been helping sailors achieve their dreams of sailing oceans. Each year they host over 450 boats with over 1,600 crew on various World Cruising Club rallies. And with Excess Catamarans it’s now easier than ever to sail the world on your very own boat, finishing in Australia or beyond.
The ARC Rally starts off in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and takes you on a 18-21 day/2,700NM journey to Saint Lucia, where the World ARC begins for the almost 8 month/9,700NM adventure through Panama, Galapagos, French Polynesia, Tonga, Fiji, Vanuatu before finally arriving in Mackay, Australia.
The World ARC then continues on all the way through Lombok, Mauritius, Reunion, South Africa, Brazil, before returning to Grenada and Saint Lucia, for a complete circumnavigation.
Not only is this an incredible and unique way to sail the world on your very own boat, but it saves you enormous amounts of upfront cost by taking delivery of your new boat in Europe, without having to pay for shipping to Australia or GST.
A number of Excess Catamarans have taken on the ARC Rally over recent years, and in fact Excess are currently one of the largest represented brands. Excess are also on hand to support your journey, and even have a number of incredibly experienced partners situated along the way to provide support along the way.
We have recently taken an order for an Excess 14 for a customer who will be taking part in next year’s rally to sail the boat from France to Australia, and currently taking part in the World ARC rally, Mulan, skippered by Jan and his family also chose an Excess 14 for his worldwide adventure;
“No other boat offered as much in terms of quality and functionality for that budget, while meeting all our needs: space for two families with children, simplicity for short-handed sailing, maximum safety, and true sailing performance.”

Mulan has won several legs of the World ARC in the catamaran class. Jan is particularly proud of their Pacific crossing from the Galapagos to the Marquesas – the longest and most demanding leg.
