The big news this month is that the Excess 13 has just been announced at the Dusseldorf Boat Show as the European Yacht of the Year in the ‘Family Cruiser’ category!
One of the jury members said “Finally, a cruising catamaran that brings some true excitement to an otherwise rather uninspired part of the market that measures progress in square meters of living and deck space rather than sail area… an obvious winner.”
However what makes this extra special is that this is the first time ever in 23 years that a catamaran has won this award, so this is a big deal!
Furthermore this award is also in addition to the Excess 13 winning the 2025 Multihull of the Year and being named in Sail Magazines Top 10 boats for 2026, making it the most awarded catamaran ever!
If you are keen to see what makes this boat so special, then our first Excess 13 will be arriving in Brisbane next month, and it will be available for inspection at the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron from late February and then on display at the 2026 Sanctuary Cove Boat Show from the 21st May.
In the meantime, check out some new on water videos uploaded from Toby from Yachts and Yachting and David from Sail Tahiti that highlight why this boat is so good!
In monohull news, Jeanneau have launched their new Sun Odyssey 455 at Dusseldorf Boat Show, and there is a great walk-through video from Voiles et Voiliers. Despite being in French, it is still worth checking out as this boat has a number of new features that will create a lot of interest.
