1939 Sparkman & Stephens 44' Classic

REDUCED - Designed by Sparkman and Stephens, the classic 44 ft 'Sirocco' was built by Taylor Brothers Shipwrights at Battery Point in Hobart and launched there in 1939. She is planked in full length Huon Pine on hardwood frames with laminated floors and ribs, copper nailed and roved in the traditional manner. 'Sirocco' was one of the first yachts designed by Sparkman and Stephens ever to be built outside of the USA. She features a long keel with keel hung rudder and is tiller-steered. In her earlier life, she was raced offshore including three successfully completed Sydney-Hobarts.

In recent years she has undergone a comprehensive refit and refurbishment by professional shipwrights here in Melbourne. Her decks have been fully replaced and almost all her deck equipment is new. She has been fitted with a Harken headsail furler, self tailing winches, rope clutches and sheeting systems with upgraded sail handling systems and a newly designed rig making her a much easier yacht to sail and needing fewer crew than was previously required. A new Whale Spars mast and boom, stainless steel wire standing rigging and Doyle sails were fitted late in 2021. She has a new suite of Brookes and Gatehouse electronics including a Vulcan 9" multi function display with GPS and Plotter plus Garmin displays on the mast. Her electrics, wiring and lighting are all new with switch panels and a Victron power management system with Inverter. Similarly, her plumbing, through hull fittings, hoses and related systems have all been renewed. To maintain her traditional appeal below decks, the new switch panels and electronics are cleverly concealed behind a timber door panel.

Sirocco sleeps 4 in a traditional layout with comfortably upholstered berths, a well equipped galley with gas stove and oven, sink with pressure hot & cold water and a fully enclosed marine toilet. She has good headroom throughout and plenty of light and ventilation below by way of the classic overhead butterfly hatch.

The yacht is powered with a new (2021) Volvo Penta D2 40 HP 4 cylinder diesel engine with a centreline shaft and a three-bladed feathering propeller. The engine has run only 40 hours since new.

All the hard work is done and with so much of her equipment new, all that remains is to enjoy sailing this magnificent Classic Yacht. Our Motivated Vendor may consider Trade or Payment Terms.
