Designed by Philippe Briand and Jean-Marc Piaton, the new Sun Odyssey 490 successfully combines contemporary style and harmony, all while respecting the heritage of her 27 years. 

The new Sun Odyssey 490 utilises technical and technological advances to enhance your quality of life at sea:

Movement about the deck is facilitated by the separation of the shrouds with the vertical shroud located on the outside of the hull, and inner diagonal shroud placed inboard for an easy passage forward and a large genoa. 

In addition to the inclined and continuous side decks and the extendable coamings, the new generation of Sun Odysseys benefit from a lower boom for easier access to the sail and an increased sail area. 

The headsail and the mainsail are led to centralised winches located near the helm stations for easier handling from the safety of the cockpit. 

The cockpit table contributes even more to your enjoyment housing controls for lighting and instruments, as well as a section for storage. 

Access to the interior is via a gently inclined 40deg companionway. The design house of Jean-Marc Piaton has created a visually and physically large and lighter living space with a contemporary modern design. 

The spacious saloon has long hull windows for light. 

The central galley, located in the most stable part of the boat, is easily accessed from both the saloon and the cockpit. More innovations abound with solutions for dish storage, as well as an ideally located opening port for cooking ventilation. 

The chart table is designed in the best nautical tradition with a contoured seat and a large, deep desk with integrated pen storage. Extra storage compartments and a signature clock and barometer set are close to the state of the art touch screen panel enabling excellent monitoring of water, fuel and batteries. 

With a wider forward section of the hull, and by shifting the head compartment aft and the sail locker forward, the owner's cabin of the new generation of Sun Odysseys enjoys an interior volume never before seen on a boat this size. 

The cabin features a berth of 160 by 200 cm, with a multitude of storage compartments, as well as a private head and separate shower compartment with the luxury of a double door access. 

The guest cabins benefit from a contemporary and harmonious layout. The design was carefully considered in order to allow each cabin to include large rectangular berths. 

This sailboat from 49 feet has revolutionized cruising: she is the only sailboat in their category to feature movement about the deck without obstacle. For example, the sidedecks are inclined, sloping down to the cockpit floor, meaning that there is no need to step over the coaming!

The twin wheels, wide split backstay and extra large electronic swim platform offer easy boarding and clear access through to the companionway. 

The engine start panel is incorporated into the central cockpit mould together with autopilot, steering compass and table/transom and light controls. Centralised Electric Harken winches operated directly from the cockpit make short-handed sailing easy, safe and stress-free. 

Under power 

The engine is the Yanmar upgraded 80HP which will deliver over 9 knots at full throttle in smooth water. She handles well, especially with the bow thruster to make close-quarters manoeuvring and docking even easier. 

Life on board has never been so simple and comfortable.

EMDEE is a beautiful example of a Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 490 with very little use and would appeal to a new boat buyer without the wait and at a fraction of the new boat price. Certainly a craft to be extremely proud of.
